A Brief Interview with Sir Venus on Leatherworking

Today's quick interview is with the knowledgeable Sir Venus! Sir Venus started playing Amtgard February 2002 in Valdosta at the Park formerly known as Dragons Keep. She was the first female Monarch of Neverwinter as well as the first (and only) female Crown Knight in Neverwinter. Even though she is best known for leatherwork, her background coming into the game was as a seamstress, and she was knighted for Serpent as a Master Dragon. In addition to crafting, she's cofounded multiple parks across NW, served all offices at Kingdom level (with the exception of Champion), and is a Master Rose as well.

How long have you been doing leather work?
-I began leatherwork in 2008/2009.

What is your favorite aspect of it and when did you fall in love (with leather)?
-Things that take forever to do with fabric are mostly instant with leather. I started loving leather when I figured out how instantly gratifying it was.

What is the most adored project you have ever done?
-Probably Sir Darko’s Knighting pillow.

What was your biggest “fail” that turned out to be an amazing lesson?
-Anything that is a lesson isn’t a failure

Where do you find your inspiration?
-People and color. I love what I can do with color.

Where would someone new go for tools and supplies?
-Tandy Leather

Advice for people who are new and those who are diving head first into leatherwork.
-Go to your local Tandy. They have free classes and will get you on the right track so you aren’t learning bad practices. Once you have the basics, practice practice practice!
